Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day! -Henry van Dyke
Wow, couldn’t we all use a bit of immortal gladness today! I have sung this song in church many times, but never really took the time to truly listen to the words! As I write, I am thinking about what I have done today to make myself feel joyful and “unfolding my heart to the sun like a flower” seemed to have missed my “to do” list. No wonder being joyful today didn’t come so easily.
That’s the thing about joy, sometimes we expect the feeling of joy to just wash over us unconsciously~ and when it doesn’t happen, we miss out on the blessing. We need to seek out our joys in life! We need to make time to unfold our hearts to the sun and let the joy fill us up with the light of day. Get active in your quest for a joyful life! Go after it with great expectation and unwavering determination!! Joy is yours for the taking. Just look around and start celebrating your life one tiny joyful moment at a time.
Whether you are washing the dishes, paying your bills, or shuffling your kids off to school…seek joy while you do it! I am off to joyfully throw in another load of laundry before I head out to the studio for a joyful day of work! What are you going to do???

It’s that time of year folks! Memorial Day and the “unofficial” start of summer is only 1 week away! ONE WEEK! I better do some extra sit ups or something~ geesh! What the heck happened to spring?? And my spring training schedule… (Triathlon countdown 119 days YIKES!)

I can’t possibly let mother’s day pass without a post dedicated to my own amazing Mom!
Meet “Mo” (A.K.A “Mom-mom Mo” )
Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting my mom knows that her love of life and enthusiastic spirit is not only contagious, it is infectious!
She is a survivor and single mother who beat all of the odds raising myself and my three sisters on housekeeper’s wage. She gave up her own dreams and career to be there for us, taking jobs which allowed her to be available to her girls both before and after school. ( And sometimes that meant scrubbing floors!)
She refereed our cat fights, took us on shoe string adventures and called them “vacations”, and made sure that we never knew just how hard it was for her to manage it all. She never ever let us see her sweat! She white knuckled it through our teenage years and managed to get each of us off to college, despite our attempts to sabotage her plan. We gave a her a real run for her money, but somehow she managed to keep pace with us the entire way. It was not uncommon for my mom to chase one of us right out the front door and up the block wielding a hanger in her hand if we dared to fall out of line. (which I dared more than I would like to admit! LOL). She spent her entire life finding ways to “made things happen” and get the job done! She has always lived large and taught me to do the same. She is an is an amazing woman and I am so lucky to have her for my mom!
Nowadays, Mom-mom-Mo has mellowed quite a bit and spends most of her time playing with her nine grand kids. In the coming months you can find her in the surf on Long Beach Island, rolling in the sand and riding the waves like a teenager. She lives life with more enthusiasm and more zest than anyone I know. I am so grateful to be her daughter and to have her as a role model and constant source of inspiration! Her grand kids can’t get enough of her and call themselves the luckiest grand kids in the world!!
We love you Mom! Thank you for all that you do for us and for teaching us how to shine!
