A little bit about me… I am a professional photographer from Philadelphia who likes to play more than I like to work, so luckily my job is really fun! I think laughter is the best medicine to combat my tendency toward OCD, so sometimes I vacuum in the nude to strike a balance! (Of course I do this when the kids are at school and the fed ex guy has already made his drop! ) I have a very professional website that you can visit where there are no curse words or references to naked housecleaning, but as for this blog~ well….. there are no promises!  I hope you’ll stick around anyway!

Please feel free to leave comments on the blog, send emails with your thoughts (kcareyprophoto@msn.com) or even call me to chat (215-668-6168)!!  I would love to hear from you!!

Seedlings, Aveda salon for children

Seedlings Salon in Doylestown is a must visit this holiday season for anyone looking for a great way to spend time with their kids!  This unique children’s salon features treasure hunts and rainforest maps, readings by children’s authors, giveaways, cartoons, simulated thunder/special effects, gigantic palm trees, talking monkeys, wildlife murals………. oh, and of course haircut, color and styling services. The salon is perfect for throwing birthday or makeover parties for kids who love to play with makeup and dress-up in zany outfits.

The owners, Karen Lafferty and Geri Rycharski have made this salon into a child’s fantasy land where families can come to relax together, play together and renew their look and spirit together.  The grown up version of Seedlings, Annodam Spa is connected right through a doorway so this is the perfect place to take your daughter for a “girl’s day out.”  Take time to make time this hoilday season to treat for yourself and your children to a spa day at Annodam and Seedlings!!  You won’t regret it and you certainly deserve it!!

this morning’s musical musing…

Styx: The grand illusion

Welcome to the grand illusion
Come on in and see whats happening
Pay the price, get your tickets for the show
The stage is set, the band starts playing
Suddenly your heart is pounding
Wishing secretly you were a star.

But dont be fooled by the radio
The tv or the magazines
They show you photographs of how your life should be
But theyre just someone elses fantasy
So if you think your life is complete confusion
Because you never win the game
Just remember that its a grand illusion
And deep inside were all the same.
Were all the same…

So if you think your life is complete confusion
Because your neighbors got it made
Just remember that its a grand illusion
And deep inside were all the same.
Were all the same…

America spells competition, join us in our blind ambition
Get yourself a brand new motor car
Someday soon well stop to ponder what on earths this spell were under
We made the grade and still we wonder who the hell we are

Holiday Mini Sessions - SOLD OUT!

fruitful

Ask anyone “how are you?” these days and the answer is usually the same.  ”I am good, really really busy, but good.”  For some reason, in our culture it is as if people feel validated or productive only if they are busy.  How would you react if someone replied to your “how are you?” question with an answer like “I am great; truly refreshed, calm and peaceful.”  Would you look at them like they were on drugs??  Probably.

For some reason we just have a hard time knowing how to slow down and set the pace for our lives.  We have so many tasks to do, places to be, projects to complete….

And I ask myself, “what is the benefit of being so busy?”  Does this ultra fast paced, over scheduled life equal success for me?  Or is it just validating my existence, albeit monotonous and boring??  Has my life become that of a drone??”  Afterall, it is the job of the drones to be so darn busy, albeit monotonous and boring.

In order to gain some peace during this holiday season when business is booming and family commitments are top priority, I am taking a moment to look at my life and decide if it is a “fruitful” life or just a very busy one.  I am asking  myself a few key questions to help me decide what tasks are relevant and important, and what tasks are just keeping me busy and bored.  Is the life that I am living or the work that I am doing producing good fruit?  And by good I mean hearty, juicy, plump, delicious nutritious sink-your-teeth into it fruit.  Or is it just keeping me out in the field digging??

The old saying “you reap what you sow” is hard to ignore when it comes time to collect the harvest.  This is the season and time of the harvest folks.  Are the seeds that you planted this year producing good fruit?  Or have you dug up so many fields that you just did not have the time to weed and water them all??

I encourage you to take the time today to sit and eat the fruit that you have grown.  Taste the flavor of your life and decide for yourself how you want to spend your day; fruitful or busy??

I plan to sow just a few seeds today in good healthy soil knowing that the reward I’ll reap at the time of the harvest will be a plump juicy delicious piece of colorful gorgeous fruit that I will actually have time to sit down, eat and enjoy~  I hope you will do the same!

Slow down with me and enjoy a fruitful day today!!  Peace!

Back from CPR~

What an amazing weekend I just spent at CPR in Stamford Connecticut!!  The event hosted by Creating Keepsakes Magazine was a huge success!  Lisa Bearnson, the founding editor of the magazine was there to share a heartfelt keynote speech that reminded all of us about the importance of photography in our everyday lives!  I was inspired by her and by all the other workshop teachers, each of whom had a different approach and passion for their work.  See them all here!

Even more inspiring were the stories of the attendees!!  I met women and men from all over the country with a desire to take better pictures for a variety of different reasons!  Their stories were touching and heartfelt.  I met Pam who had recently lost her beloved husband.  She was attending the conference to honor his life by learning more about the craft of photography which he so passionately enjoyed.  I met AnnMary, a new mom to two young children who is struggling to accept her role as stay-at-home-mom while nurturing her own spirit and passion for photography and design.  I met so many more wonderful budding photographers, all of whom were so excited about developing their own photographic potential!!  It was truly a fantastic experience!!

I am so deeply blessed with a career that puts me in touch with people on such a personal level.  It is my hope that by sharing our stories we have all grown to have a greater understanding of the power of heartfelt connection and honest intimacy~~ the two things I most love to photograph!!   Thank you to the CPR staff for inviting me and to all of my new friends for embracing me!!  I look forward to seeing you all again at CPR 2009!
