D E S I G N A G L O W THE FUSION OF PHOTOGRAPHY DESIGN AND INSPIRATION

Recently featured in Lena Hyde’s DESIGN AGLOW magazine. This magazine is fabulous with stories of inspiration, articles on design and marketing, and a studio feature that gives you a glimpse inside some of the most successful studios in the country. The new issue #5 is titled the“Success Issue” and it features some of the industry’s top photographers. I am honored to be part of such a fabulous issue which includes other awesome photographers like Tara Whitney, Jesh DeRox, Justine Ungaro, Jen Thompson, and Andrea Joki. I was honored to be chosen by the American Society of Media Photographers as one of the BEST OF 2006, and featured in the organization’s national trade publication along with 19 other amazing photographers from all over the country. Selection for inclusion was based on review of my ongoing work with Flashes of Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating powerful uplifting portraits of children battling cancer and other life threatening illness. I have since become extremely committed to serve and fund raise for this amazing organization. If you are a photographer interested in volunteering or a client considering making a donation, please email me!! There are so many ways to make a difference and support these children and their families. Let’s do them together.

Focus Philly 2008

I am extremely honored to be among some of Philadelphia’s the top photographer who were chosen for inclusion in the 2007 and 2008 Focus Philly Exhibit! The 2008 show is currently hanging at the University of the Arts and will travel to various venues all over the city throughout the coming months. Members of the American Society of Media Photographers, set aside their normal commercial and editorial work to explore more personal subject matter.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Inspired by the controversial article titled “Bad Parents,” written by Tom McGrath for Philadelphia Magazine in August 2007, I was moved to echo his sentiments about today’s generation of the “worst parents ever.” With this self assignment, I chose to document the pressure cooker environment that children are growing up in while striving to achieve all of their imposed “potential.” This series entitled “PMS PreMiddle School Syndrome” depicts the discontent and frustration expressed by our children who are essentially being robbed of their “childhood.” It is my hope that the viewer will be moved to re-evaluate his/her own contribution to our society’s current parenting problem and take the necessary steps to get the kids off of the “success treadmill” and back out onto the playground where they belong.

Focus Philly 2007

The Focus Philly 2007 event featured the work of ASMP’s photographers and the great neighborhoods of Philadelphia. Photographers were challenged to capture the spirit of Philadelphia on an exploration of the neighborhoods in which they live and work: the neighborhoods they love. I chose to go back to the neighborhood of Fox Chase, where I grew up and lived for most of my life. My portrait entitled: “Mom and Pop’s Place” featured Gladys, a neighborhood icon and owner of Vogt’s candy store which was established 1937 by her parents. The store has been a favorite stop for lemon head lovers and penny candy connoisseurs for decades~
