fruitful

Ask anyone “how are you?” these days and the answer is usually the same.  ”I am good, really really busy, but good.”  For some reason, in our culture it is as if people feel validated or productive only if they are busy.  How would you react if someone replied to your “how are you?” question with an answer like “I am great; truly refreshed, calm and peaceful.”  Would you look at them like they were on drugs??  Probably.

For some reason we just have a hard time knowing how to slow down and set the pace for our lives.  We have so many tasks to do, places to be, projects to complete….

And I ask myself, “what is the benefit of being so busy?”  Does this ultra fast paced, over scheduled life equal success for me?  Or is it just validating my existence, albeit monotonous and boring??  Has my life become that of a drone??”  Afterall, it is the job of the drones to be so darn busy, albeit monotonous and boring.

In order to gain some peace during this holiday season when business is booming and family commitments are top priority, I am taking a moment to look at my life and decide if it is a “fruitful” life or just a very busy one.  I am asking  myself a few key questions to help me decide what tasks are relevant and important, and what tasks are just keeping me busy and bored.  Is the life that I am living or the work that I am doing producing good fruit?  And by good I mean hearty, juicy, plump, delicious nutritious sink-your-teeth into it fruit.  Or is it just keeping me out in the field digging??

The old saying “you reap what you sow” is hard to ignore when it comes time to collect the harvest.  This is the season and time of the harvest folks.  Are the seeds that you planted this year producing good fruit?  Or have you dug up so many fields that you just did not have the time to weed and water them all??

I encourage you to take the time today to sit and eat the fruit that you have grown.  Taste the flavor of your life and decide for yourself how you want to spend your day; fruitful or busy??

I plan to sow just a few seeds today in good healthy soil knowing that the reward I’ll reap at the time of the harvest will be a plump juicy delicious piece of colorful gorgeous fruit that I will actually have time to sit down, eat and enjoy~  I hope you will do the same!

Slow down with me and enjoy a fruitful day today!!  Peace!

Hi Ho, Hi Ho…

Its off to school they go….

Well, it has been 12 years in the making.  Motherhood Phase ONE is complete.  Both of my children are now in school full time leaving me 8 hours each day to work or play without interruption.  It is quiet at home and I love that the only thing resonating in my ears these days is the saying “Silence is Bliss!”  I am so excited about having more time to focus on my business and rejoin the world of those working during more “regular” daylight hours.

I have been so blessed to be able to be home with my children when they were young.   I know that many are not as lucky as I.  I would love sit here and tell you that it was the best years of my life and that nothing else could ever compare, but in all honesty it was tough.  Wonderful, but tough.  Being a stay at home mom is full time job in itself.  One with lousey pay, but great benefits.  It takes a great deal of sacrifice and patience, especially if you are also running a business at the same time.  While I truly am grateful for the time that I had to be there for my kids… I am equally grateful that it is over!  At least Phase One is over.  Now its time to gear up for Phase Two (the part where I become the chauffer, the homework checker, the chaperone and so so much more…. but I am happy to not be the diaper changer, bottle feeder, and full time companion.)

For many years I have felt like a race horse ready to run… pulling back so tightly on the reigns of my business knowing that the timing was just not right to burst out of the gate.  It feels very exciting to begin the first lap of the race with the start of the school year and the sound of the starting gun!!

I don’t long for the finish line by any means.  I plan to enjoy the run.

“Unofficial” end to summer ‘08

This is the usual “end of summer” photo.  After days of hearing the ice cream bell ring every fifteen minutes, the kids are always so surprised when my sisters and I finally cave and say yes to ice cream on the beach!!Â
